Higher profile actors such as Shipka and Batalon blend seamlessly into a cast of young up and comers. This film has the perfect mix of familiar and new faces that the celebrity factor doesn’t end up overtaking the story itself.

Let It Snow succeeds when Netflix’s summer ensemble, The Last Summer, could not. Let It Snow – Anna Akana, Liv Hewson – Photo Credit: Netflix / Steve Wilkie Even Joan Cusack ( Shameless) and D’Arcy Carden ( The Good Place) stop by to celebrate the holidays. The ensemble of teens includes Kiernan Shipka ( Chilling Adventures of Sabrina), Jacob Batalon ( Spider-man: Far From Home), Isabela Moner, ( Instant Family), and Shameik Moore ( Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse). Sprinkle in a stranded pop star, a stolen beer keg, and a lady wearing tinfoil and we’ve got ourselves a real Christmas rom-com.Īnd if the miracle of a cinematic winter wonderland doesn’t completely win you over, the cast sure will. It’s a film that captures the beauty of fresh snow and the gawky awkwardness of adolescence as these high-school seniors are thrown together by circumstance. This instant holiday hit follows a group of teens living in a small midwestern town hit by an unexpected snowstorm on Christmas Eve. Netflix’s Let It Snow is a modern-day Love Actually with fewer British accents and a whole lot of charm.

What's with the pig? Image: Netflix. This review contains spoilers for the Netflix Original Movie Let It Snow. Like why the reason Tin Foil Lady wears tin foil is never explained to the audience, and exactly why Dorrie and Addie want to buy a pet piglet. Yes, there are some plot points throughout this film that don't really make sense. The thread that ties all of these storylines together is Keon, played by Marvel actor Jacob Batalon, who is obsessed with throwing the ultimate Christmas Eve party. Hollywood actress Joan Cusack narrates the film as the town's tow truck diver known as 'Tin Foil Lady', who picks up and teaches some important life lessons to Addie (played by Dumplin' actress Odeya Rush), who finds herself stranded in the snow after trying to catch out her cheating boyfriend. We also watch Julie (played by Dora The Explorer's Isabela Moner), a scholarship kid tossing up whether to go to college or stay home to look after her sick mum, accidentally meet and then spend Christmas Eve with lonely young pop star Stuart Bale, played by Shameik Moore, the voice of the lead character in the animated movie Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.

Tobin and Angie's storyline is a classic teen rom com trope. There’s the childhood best friends Angie and Tobin (played by Sabrina The Teenage Witch and Mad Men actress Kiernan Shipka and Mitchell Hope) who are in love with each other but are too scared to say it, and the Waffle House waiter Dorrie (played by Aussie actor Liv Hewson from Top of the Lake and Santa Clarita Diet) who is secretly seeing popular cheerleader Kerry (Anna Akana) who hasn’t come out yet. Much like other holiday ensemble romantic comedies like Love Actually and Valentine’s Day, the movie follows five classic, intertwined teen storylines that ultimately come together at an underage Christmas Eve party at the town’s Waffle House diner. Based on the young adult novel Let It Snow: Three Holiday Romances by John Green, Maureen Johnson and Lauren Myracle, this original Netflix film tells the story of what happens to a group of high school friends when a snowstorm hits their small town on Christmas Eve.
